Hearing Tests in Greenbrae

If you suspect you may need a hearing aid, the first step is a hearing test. During your hearing exam we will take a case history to determine how hearing loss impacts your day-to-day life, as well perform a series of tests, including:

Checkmark Icon
Pure Tone Audiometry – A behavioral test that is used to gauge hearing sensitivity, providing us with an indication of the softest sound that’s audible to you.
Checkmark Icon
Speech Audiometry – A measure of your ability to comprehend speech.
Checkmark Icon
Tympanometry – This hearing test uses varying air pressures to measure the condition of the middle ear as well as the mobility of the eardrum and the conduction bones.
Checkmark Icon
Acoustic Reflexes – When your ears are stimulated by sounds, there is an involuntary muscle contraction in the middle ear. This hearing test measures how effective your acoustic reflexes are.

Otoacoustic Emission – When your inner ear is damaged, they tend to disappear. There are two types: spontaneous and evoked.

Hearing Aid Fittings

After we’ve evaluated your hearing, we’ll recommend hearing aids that match your unique hearing needs and lifestyle. Our team are experts in hearing technology and can program and fit the devices to your exact needs and hearing prescription.

First, we’ll ensure the devices fit the unique shape of your ear. Hearing aids should sit comfortably yet securely in/around the ear. Then, using the results of your hearing test, we’ll program the devices to provide you with the right amount of amplification.

Hearing Aid Adjustments & Repairs

If your hearing aids aren’t providing you with clarity or something doesn’t seem right, bring them in and we can adjust them. Our team are experts in hearing aid technology and can address most issues same-day. We can do many repairs in-office, but, if necessary, we can send your hearing aids to the manufacturer for more major repairs.

Hearing Aid Cleanings

Your hearing aids sit inside your ears all day, every day. In order to ensure your hearing aids are performing their best, it’s important to bring them in for a professional cleaning. We can clean your hearing aids in-office to ensure they provide you with better hearing.

We recommend coming in every six months to have your hearing aids deep cleaned and so we can perform a maintenance check-up. Regularly caring for your hearing aids will ensure they last you for many years.

Tinnitus Management

Tinnitus, commonly known as “ringing in the ears,” affects millions of Americans. Tinnitus is described as hearing a buzzing, ringing, humming, whistling, or whooshing sound in your ears when no external sound is present. We take a holistic approach to treating tinnitus that is personalized to you. We also carry hearing aids that have a tinnitus masking feature that can help distract your brain from the ringing in your ears. While hearing aids won’t stop ringing in the ears completely, they can greatly help.

Hearing Protection

Noise-induced hearing loss is the second most common cause of sensorineural hearing loss after presbycusis (aging). It can develop regularly as a result of repeated exposure to loud noise or it can happen suddenly due to a one-time extremely loud sound.

At Audiology Services of Marin, we can create custom hearing protection to preserve your hearing and prevent any damage. We offer:
